Originally, Maisons-Alfort was called simply Maisons. The name Maisons comes from Medieval Latin Mansiones, meaning "the houses".
At the creation of the commune during the French Revolution, the name of the hamlet of Alfort was joined with the name of Maisons. The name Alfort comes from the manor built there by Peter of Aigueblanche, Bishop of Hereford (England), in the middle of the 13th century. The name of this Manor of Hereford was corrupted into Harefort, then Hallefort, and eventually Alfort. The National Veterinary School of Alfort was settled several centuries later in the manor and its estate. More on Maisons-Alfort
Claude Verlinde is a French artist and sculptor. born on June 24 , 1927, of Flemish parents. He attended the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris and l'Académie de la Grande Chaumière. Verlinde is consider an undisputed master of visionary art and a Surrealist par excellence genius, up there with Salvador Dali and René Magritte.
He has fun with the viewer, dragging him into his world without giving him all the keys, inviting him to share a game with him. A journey in fantastic realism. His works include many symbolic references that speak of the flight of time, the vanity of existence, problems of society with humor.
Verlinde's works have the influence of Hieronymus Bosch. More on Claude Verlinde
