Located along the route up from Place des Abbesses to Montmartre, next to the Bateau-Lavoir building where Picasso once had a workshop, Chez Camille has lost none of its charm. The tiny terrace and sprinkling of tables in this place perched high above the hubbub of the city are always keenly sought after. More on Chez Camille

"I was attracted to the look and character of this Parisian restaurant, which is often used by artists and musicians. I found painting the sidewalk and road interesting as well, as it was an strong contrast to the red of the restaurant..." Christopher James

Christopher James was born in County Durham, England. James has been a serious painter for over 25 years. He studied fine art at the University of Northumbria, though is mostly self taught. He has exhibited in London, Kent and Edinburgh and his paintings have attracted collectors from the UK and internationally. He dreamt of being an artist from the age of 12 and discovering biblical images by Rembrandt in a family bible had sparked an early fascination with dramatic light and form. His compositions of atmospheric street scenes, landscapes and figure studies are informed by a combination of oil sketches, photography and memory. Ultimately striving to create qualities of light, which reflect deeper memories, emotions and imagination. At the same time capturing sacred and timeless qualities of people, architecture and nature. Many artists from early Renaissance to the present day have been an influence on his progress. Especially Andrea Del Sarto, Van Gogh, Sargent, Delacroix, Rembrandt, Artemisia Gentileschi, Sickert, Joan Eardley, Gwen John, Marino Marini, Andrew Gifford, Peter Brown and many more. More on Christopher James
