Pope Francis surprised the world by inviting homeless men and women to the Sistine Chapel. But it gets better: he treated them to a private viewing with an unannounced visit last Thursday, CNA reports.
A collection of about 100 paintings, sketches and memorabilia from French painter Pierre Bonnard were fetched 5.5 million euros at an auction in Fontainebleau near Paris on Sunday. Two paintings sold for nearly a million euros each.

The present model is one of Mêne's most popular works and is thought to represent the 1862 Derby Winner, Caractacus. Exhibited in wax in the Salon of 1863, it appeared in bronze in the following year and was featured as no. 16 in Mêne's catalogue as Jockey à Cheval in two sizes.
Mêne's animalier sculpture was very popular in Britain, where he exhibited in the Great Exhibitions of 1851 and 1862. The Derby Winner seems to have been designed specifically for the British market.
